This set of mug rugs featuring four different snowflake patterns is the perfect quick-to-make addition to your winter decor and makes a great gift.
Mosaic crochet basics:
- All rows are worked with right side facing.
- Fasten off yarn at the end of each row.
- Don’t worry about all the yarn ends. The short yarn ends will be trimmed and create a nice fringe on each side.
- Other than the foundation row and border stitches, all single crochet stitches are worked into the back loop only of the stitch in the previous row.
- All double crochet stitches are worked into the front loop only of the stitch two rows below.
- Border stitches are single crochets worked into both loops of the stitch in the previous row. Tip: Start each row with a standing single crochet stitch through both loops.
- For more information on how to work overlay mosaic crochet and a video tutorial see my post on overlay mosaic crochet.
- BSC = Border Single Crochet. Work a single crochet through both loops of the stitch in the previous row. Hint: Start each row with a standing single crochet.
- SC = Single crochet in the back loop only of the stitch in the previous row
- DC = Double crochet in the front loop only of the stitch 2 rows below (work into stitch of the same color)
Notes:
- When you see a sequence in parentheses followed by x___ you’ll work that sequence the number of times indicated by the number after the x. Example: (3DC, 1SC)x3 would be worked as 3DC, 1SC, 3DC, 1SC, 3D, 1SC.
- Although not required, some people prefer to anchor the stitches where there are long sections of double crochet. This is the method for anchoring stitches that I suggest for this pattern: https://youtu.be/Udwv8yYNVuc?si=YtpRlH3FZmuLshiG This method will also make your project reversible if you make an anchor stitch any time you work a SC that sits directly above a DC stitch.
